Bruno Mars - Marry You (Lyrics) HD
We want beautiful eyes!
According to doctors, every 50th child suffers from strabismus. This form of deviation is easy to recognize without consulting specialists. Strabismus in children is not considered a particularly dangerous disease, but you should not let its development take its course.
We invite you to familiarize yourself with reasons for its development , find out what types of deviations exist and what measures can and should be taken.
What is it and why does it appear?
Strabismus is a condition characterized by deviation from the central axis of one or both eyes. With the correct position of the eyes, the image of the object under consideration with the help of the visual analyzer merges together and we get a clear binocular image.
For a kid with deviations, the pictures do not connect. In order not to strain the body in vain, the central nervous system turns off the squinting eye.
From the side it seems that the baby is looking in different directions, but in fact only one eye is working. The second begins to react and perform the function of a beholder if you close a healthy eye with something. If this problem is not solved for a long time, then amblyopia begins to develop, vision on the problem eye will decrease.
The causes of strabismus in children are usually associated with malfunctioning of the body and the influence of external stimuli.
The following factors may affect its development:
- congenital diseases and injuries during childbirth;
- increased physical and mental stress;
- infectious diseases of the brain;
- presence of moderate to high astigmatism, hyperopia or myopia;
- abnormal development of the eye muscles, inflammation and swelling in them;
- CNS diseases;
- a sharp decrease in visual acuity in one eye.
Most often, such deviations can be seen in children 2-3 years old. It is during this period that their eyes learn to work together, to correctly match images.
Types of strabismus
The disease has several forms. So, the disease is congenital or acquired. In the first case, birth trauma is most often the cause of its occurrence. In any type of disease, deviations can be permanent and periodic and can beonly one or both eyes. There are 2 main forms: paralytic and friendly.
The development of the paralytic form is associated with disorders in the muscles responsible for the mobility of the eyeball or with diseases affecting the optic nerve. A distinctive feature - only a healthy eye squints, the damaged organ is inactive or will remain in place.
According to the type of deviation, the paralytic form is divided into 4 more types:
- Convergent - looks at the bridge of the nose. In children, convergent squint is most often combined with hyperopia;
- Vertical - looking up or down;
- Diverging - the gaze is directed to the temple. With divergent strabismus in children, myopia is most often diagnosed;
- Mixed - the eyes can be directed in different directions.
The friendly form is characterized by alternating strabismus, that is, both the right and left eyes can deviate from the central axis. The reason is most often hidden in heredity and the peculiarities of the structure of the eyes of this person.
The friendly form comes in the following varieties:
- Accommodation, can develop in a child up to 2-3 years old, with high physical exertion. The reason is the presence of concomitant diseases (hyperopia, myopia, astigmatism) of moderate and high degrees. In often sick and weakened babies, it can appear even before a year;
- Partially accommodative;
The latter are manifested in babies 1-2 years of age. The reason for the development of these forms of the disease is associated not only with violations of the eyes, but also with the presence of external factors. This is a rather serious form of deviation; to solve this problem, an integrated approach will be required, and even surgical intervention.
There is also a latent form of strabismus in children. You can notice the signs after strenuous activities, when the baby was drawing or studying pictures, if the baby is upset about something or wants to sleep. At these moments, you can see that the eyes of children seem to look in different directions.
After a certain period of time, everything falls into place, but this is not a reason to calm down, it is imperative to consult a doctor. The child may have a tendency to squint. The optometrist will help confirm or deny the diagnosis and, if necessary, prescribe treatment. Otherwise, the latent deviation may turn into an explicit form.
Diagnostics and treatment
At the initial stage of the development of the disease, the child may not experience any inconvenience. Usually, parents or acquaintances are the first to notice such deviations. Over time, symptoms such as dizziness and headaches appear, the images begin to double, the picture is not three-dimensional, but flat. In addition to this, vision may start to deteriorate.
In childhood, this can significantly affect the perception of the surrounding world. Sometimes noted fromtavaniya in mental and physical development. All these consequences of strabismus in a child can be corrected by an ophthalmologist.
Only he can make the correct diagnosis and determine the cause of the disease. He will also check visual acuity and, if necessary, will select the appropriate glasses.
Special tables and mirrors are used to make a diagnosis. With the help of appropriate equipment, the angle of deflection and mobility of the eyeballs are determined. In case of paralytic form, a consultation with a neurologist may be required.
Treatment of strabismus in children should be started immediately, this disease does not go away by itself, both you and the baby will have to work hard. It can take several years from diagnosis to complete recovery. Positive dynamics will be achieved only if all the doctor's recommendations are strictly followed.
It is necessary to start with vision correction. For this, children are prescribed special glasses, which he must wear regularly. When the muscles of one eyeball weaken, one of the glasses (healthy eye) can be sealed. This will help train and strengthen the weak eye.
Therapeutic (hardware) treatment includes not only wearing glasses, but also special exercises for the eyes. All exercises create moderate workloads and help to strengthen the eye muscles. As a result of such training, weakened areas are gradually strengthened, vision is restored and obliqueness disappears. A positive result can be expected for a long time, but it will definitely be.
In addition to the hardware treatment of strabismus in children, for some forms of the disease, a surgical operation may be prescribed. It is recommended to do this at the age of 3 to 6 years, although if necessary, you can operate at any time. Up to the age of 14, abnormalities are corrected under general anesthesia, later under local anesthesia.
You can recover from surgery within 10 days. After that, muscle-strengthening exercises are necessarily prescribed. All types of therapy are carried out under the supervision of an ophthalmologist. In the course of treatment, corrections are made to them and, if necessary, glasses are changed.
How to avoid such deviations?
Of course, it's good that most types of strabismus can be corrected, but it is better to try to prevent its development. For this, ophthalmologists have certain recommendations. Firstly, you should not hang toys too close to the crib or stroller, you must follow the rules of visual stress.
Secondly, you should be regularly examined by specialists and if you have any doubts, consult a doctor, especially if you have a predisposition to strabismus. Thirdly, any eye diseases should be promptly treated.
If you already have strabismus, then you should tune in to long-term treatment and strictly follow all the doctor's prescriptions. However, you should not despair - with timely diagnosis and proper treatment, you can get rid of this ailment!
