Seizures in Children – Causes, Signs, Risks and Treatment
How to cure a child's seizure
Unpleasant irritation, cracks and inflammation in the corners of the mouth is a common phenomenon that people call seizures. Women and children are most susceptible to it, because their skin is thinner and more sensitive than that of men. Such defects spoil the appearance and cause a lot of inconvenience, as they are accompanied by pain. Therefore, their treatment should be started as early as possible.
Such a defect is often confused with herpes, so it is important to be able to distinguish the first from the second, as well as know how to treat seizures in an adult and a child.
Seizures in medicine are called angulitis, or angular stomatitis. This skin disease can be caused by several factors, including streptococci and yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida.
Causes of seizure in children and adults
These defects do not occur by themselves. The influence of internal or external negative factors is necessary.
- Hypovitaminosis, especially vitamin B2 deficiency;
- Decreased immune defense;
- Lack of iron;
- Poor oral hygiene;
- Maceration of the skin due to increased salivation;
- Diabetes mellitus;
- Skin trauma.
Symptoms and Diagnosis
When a child has a jam, before starting treatment, you need to diagnose and find out the cause. These defects appear as small bubbles. But they quickly burst and cracks appear in their place, and then yellowish crusts.
Usually, the disease is treated for no more than one to two weeks, but if it is caused by vitamin deficiency or a decrease in immunityuniteta, it persists for months. At the same time, the skin around the lesion is reddened and swollen.
If angulitis is caused by streptococcus, then itching and burning are added to the above symptoms, especially after eating spicy, salty and sour; there is pain when talking, opening the mouth. Dr. Komarovsky recommends finding out the source first. Otherwise, the treatment will be ineffective.
A seizure caused by a fungus of the genus Candida is not covered with a crust and is visible only when the lips are open. Very often this type of disease becomes chronic and makes itself felt with a lack of vitamins and a decrease in the body's immune forces.
When children have seizures, Dr. Komarovsky recommends first of all to seek the advice of a dermatologist to find out the cause of the disease. The doctor will prescribe a laboratory test: a scraping is taken from the affected area and checked for fungi.
Before anointing a child with something, you need to pass a general blood test for the level of leukocytes, hemoglobin, sugar and ESR in order to exclude anemia, an inflammatory reaction, etc. excluding syphilis.
It is recommended to consult a hematologist, endocrinologist and therapist. If the wounds appeared due to trauma, then a visit to the dentist will be needed.
Child's jam: what should you do?
The first thing that parents should do is take the baby to the doctor when the first warning signs appear. It is very important to prevent the transition of the disease into a chronic form.
Angulitis can be treated with different methods: medication (local and general), vitamin therapy, folk remedies. But any of the methods involves the sanitation of the oral cavity, the exclusion of spicy foods and sweets (with candidiasis).
Such drugs are prescribed after determining the causative agent of the disease. Usually prescribe means for internal use, ointments and disinfectant solutions for treating the corners of the lips, vitamins B2, B, PP.
If the test results confirmed the fungal nature of the disease, antifungal drugs are prescribed internally. It can be: lamisil, nizoral, levorin, nystatin, ketoconazole, fluconazole.
The occurrence of angulitis as a result of streptococcal infection is subject to antibiotic treatment. These substances selectively inhibit the vital activity of pathogens. But they are prescribed for internal use only in case of extensive lesions.
Self-medication in such a situation is highly undesirable. Antibiotics should only be prescribed by a doctor in accordance with the causative agent of the disease and other areas of treatment.
In addition to basic funds, you need to further strengthen the immune system. Particular attention is paid to complexes containing vitamins A, C, PP and groupsat B, for example, Aerovit, Aevit and similar. At the same time, the affected areas are additionally lubricated with vitamins, but not at the acute stage of the disease, but already during healing. They contribute to the early healing of wounds. They usually drink them for a month.
You can anoint the affected skin with levorin or nystatin ointment, lamisil cream, borax solution in glycerin. Streptococcal angulitis is treated with antibiotic ointments (synthomycin liniment, erythromycin), and candidal angulitis - with antifungal (sulfur-salicylic, levorinic, nystatin, with fluconazole).
Vishnevsky's ointment has a good anti-inflammatory effect, but it must not get on the oral mucosa.
How to cure a child's seizure
In children, these defects occur for the same reasons as in adults. Children constantly pull dirty things into their mouths, brush their teeth poorly, etc. Treatment is the same as for adults. The choice of essential drugs depends on the nature of the disease.
Antiseptics and Antifungals
When a streptococcus or a fungus is detected, the same drugs are prescribed as for adults - nystatin, fluconazole, lamisil, levorin (tablets / ointment). Of the ointments, preference is given to syntomycin, erythromycin.
It is allowed to use a solution of borax in glycerin, but the rules of use and concentration are selected only by the doctor, depending on the age of the child.
If a child's seizures have arisen due to problems with the small intestine, where vitamin B is absorbed, then this series is used.
Usually babies are diagnosed with dysbiosis. You can overcome it, and therefore seizures, with the help of drugs such as Bifiform, Linex and the like.
To increase immunity, cope with hypovitaminosis, prescribe multivitamins, medical brewer's yeast, rosehip syrup, etc. Lips are smeared with an oil solution of vitamins E and A, but this can be done only after the end of the acute period of the disease.
Parents are advised to slightly change the child's diet - add more almonds, greens, liver, dairy, green vegetables.
Some recipes can be successfully used to treat angular stomatitis in children, adults, and pregnant women. For example, at night, the affected areas are smeared with honey or cucumber juice. Vaseline softens the skin, promotes healing of cracks.
Linseed and olive oil have similar properties. You can treat the wounds with beeswax, goose fat, butter, herbal infusions (chamomile, string, celandine, sage).
Parents can apply small compresses with honey and fish oil, tea tree oil solution, or regular green tea on the affected area. Earwax is a fairly popular remedy. It is simply applied to the corners of the mouth.
To prevent seizures from appearing, you need to accustom your child to thorough oral hygiene, visit the dentist with him. In addition, the diet should contain foods rich in vitamins B and E - fish, green leafy vegetables, legumes, nuts, cheese, bran, vegetable oils, cabbage, oatmeal.
Diet During Angulitis Treatment
Spicy, salty and sour foods must be excluded from the diet. If the causes of the disease are hidden in the defeat of fungi, then sweets are contraindicated. Meat and fish food is best eaten baked or boiled, and fried should be reduced to a minimum.
